More Worldly Travels
So begins another jaunt to the other side of the equator. I’m in a cab now heading to Penn Station. It’s crappy weather out (cold and rainy), and I’m looking forward to the warm clear skies of Rio de Janeiro. It’s going to be a short trip (only 3 days there),but very needed. Got to clear my head and figure some things out. Beaches in foreign countries help out with that a lot.
Now that I know where to go once I get there, I feel a lot more comfortable about going to Rio this time. Also, I’m traveling alone, so I only have to worry about me (which isn’t that difficult).
I think I’m going to attempt to take the bus from the airport to ipanema. It’s only $3 and I arrive in the afternoon.
I scored a pretty good flight. It’s a direct flight from Newark to Sao Paulo and then a short flight to Rio from there. 12 hours in total.
I think the weirdest thing that I’m looking forward to is sleeping. On the beach, in a hammock, hostel bed, or anywhere really. I’ve had a very odd sleep habit since Saturday and I haven’t been able to break it. In the last 5 days I’ve slept a total of 7 hours and it’s been divided up at the strangest times. I would not sleep for 2 days, then crash for 2 hours around 5pm, then stay up until 11 am and then sleep for maybe an hour then maybe another hour at 9. On top of all of this, I’ve been fighting off a cold (I hope). So for the past few days I’ve been in a constant delusional state and unable to think. I just stay busy. Whatever, anything. Just have to keep occupied. If I rest or relax, I think. That’s my downfall. So, it’s time for a strong readjustment. That’s why I cashed in all my miles an converted all my cash left to Reals (Brazilian currency). I feel that it really is that important not to be here this weekend. Just leaving my apt, the city, or even the state wouldn’t have cut it. I need to go where I don’t know anyone an no one knows me (and perferrably warm =).
Rio, here I come!
